TV Commercials For Places That Don't Exist

For the longest time, I had to sit through Sonic Drive-In commercials, not knowing what the hell that restaurant was about, or whether it was even real. Then a Sonic opened up 25 miles from my house, and I decided I'd better try it. Verdict: It was nothing special, I now understand why they had to create such a buzz prior to their entry into the market.

Another is this mythical Dunkin Donuts place - they advertise this great looking coffee and egg white flatbreads, then refuse to show up once I want one. Why advertise in a market where your product doesn't exist? I know the Los Angeles television market contains nearly 20 million potential customers, but ZERO of them can eat at Dunkin Donuts. Hmm. I know that Dunkin Donuts exists, though - I've seen it in other states.

The last is a place I'm convinced is not real: CiCi's Pizza. This place claims to hand out disgusting pizza on an unlimited basis for just "five dollars and change" in return. This pizza cannot be the least bit good, so I'm convinced it doesn't exist. Who would pay $5 plus 8.75 per cent sales tax for cheap pizza? You can get real pizza that actually exists for the same price.

Very weird.

  1. I did the exact same thing. There is no sonics near me, so I made a drive of about 20 minutes because it always looked so damn good. It wasn't worth the trip at all

  4. I'm from So-cal and this is a largely talked about issue lol. Fortunately I don't think we're missing out too much with CiCi's and Sonic. I don't eat fastfood anyway!

  5. I have to say CiCi's Pizza isn't that great, but when you are starving you can pig out on a variety of foods for a good price. Pizza is ok, but they have salads, deserts, etc.

  6. All these places are around, just in certain areas. For example, i live nowhere near any CiCi's that i know of, but at the same time, i have over 15 dunkin' donuts in my city.

  9. Not a good variety of fast food chains here in the great north (Canada). All we have is Tim Hortons, I'd kill for a sonics or in n out.

  11. Yeah, I hate that. The U.S channel we have in Canada show them but it's kind of pointless because those restaurants are not even in Canada to begin with.

  12. Cici's pizza IS crap. BUT. Their cinnamon roles and those chocolate things and their breadsticks are like the best thing ever, and definitely worth the price XD. And yes, its real.

  13. LOL I know what you mean with Sonic dude.

We had Sonic commercials for years here before one popped up. Was busy for like the first week and now it's almost empty every day xD.

  14. I'm impressed that people have actually eaten at this CiCi's Pizza place. They've been running commercials here in the Los Angeles area for YEARS and I've never seen one. Why pay to advertise in the second-biggest market in the country when you've got no locations there? Can't be cheap!

  16. i've been to all of those places but there used to be no sonic around me either and i'd see ads for em. and the reason for this is affiliate marketing. the stations near you are owned by the same companies that own local stations in other areas.

so when an ad contract is negotiated, it covers a network and it's affiliates, regarless of the location, or demographic of the affiliate channels.

  18. Hey man don't knock CiCi's! They're a great place to get filled for cheap. Especially when you're a struggling college student!

For about $6.00 I can stuff my face full and remain full for the rest of the night through to the morning and the pizza is decent too and they have a wide variety.

  19. haha, that's so true...I've seen so maby ads for Dunken Donuts...nearest one is 200 miles away

  20. CiCi's is revolting. The only edible food in that place is the dessert pizza. We have local ads for Jack in the Box, which I have never seen around here.
